Acupuncture and sports
In our new "TCM and Sport" series, we would like to bring you in a simplified form of how you can help in your sport using traditional methods that can be surprisingly effective.
What is acupuncture? It is an ancient technique of stimulating certain active points on the human body for the purpose of treating the body with needles or other sharp objects. It originated in the Far East about 2000 years ago.
Although it does not seem to be a sports injury and acupuncture has a lot in common. Acupuncture treats all kinds of sports injuries from stretched or torn muscles, ligaments, tendons, wrinkled ankles etc. to rehabilitation after fractures or other serious injuries.
Acupuncture can be applied immediately at the beginning of the injury, as well as in the later stages. Of course, here too, the sooner the acupuncture starts, the sooner it will take, but it can also help in very serious conditions when Western medicine has already given up. It's strange how many athletes could continue to sport or return to sports much earlier if they dropped prejudices and visited the TCM and discussed their condition. Most of the time there is a concern that the needle sticking is hurting and the truth is that it is definitely a pain, but it is definitely nothing against painful injuries that stretch for weeks, sometimes months.
And how does acupuncture work? Everything is about the flow of life energy. We can imagine it as a lymph, or blood, or all together. Although such TCM practitioners would not be happy, this is enough for us. And in the event of an injury-whatever happens due to swelling, cracks or fractures to stop-blocking the flow of this energy, and because this energy nourishes everything in the body, the wounded site is not nurtured due to blocking and hence does not heal-self-repairing the injured our organism. Our human bodies are wonderfully designed, and if energy flows smoothly across the body, we are healthy and happy.
All problems and illnesses simply come from blocking the free flow of energy. And acupuncture, thanks to the stimulation of certain points - mostly local in the immediate vicinity of the wounds and distant - thanks to networked paths, can restore the flow of energy and so the sick place to heal. Thus, problems in the shoulder can be treated on the leg and vice versa. Acupuncture is excellent even in blocking pains of the back, neck, shoulders, etc. It is usually enough to treat injuries using several needles, but acupuncture must be completed regularly until complete cure. Subsequently, it is possible to work to strengthen the body so that the injuries occur as little as the athlete is usually injured because of weakening or excessive overload of a certain part of the body and consequently the pressure does not last. Often they are tendons and ligaments, muscles and various tendons.
Add a recipe for treating sick ankles, you can squeeze points with your finger or some object. The point that hurts the most is the right one and pay extra attention. These are the ST41 (JieXi) points on the upper side of the instep, the BL60 (KunLun), between the ankle and the achilles on the outside of the leg and the Ki-3 (TaiXi). It comes again between the ankle and the achilles but from the inside of the foot .
